The Charles Island Reforestation LLC is a non-profit working with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) to reforest the island. Years of storms, deer, invasive plant species and a fungus which attacked the old trees have deteriorated the island. Only trees that are resistant to the type of fungus present on the island can be planted. Teams of volunteers have been working with DEEP workers to bring the island tree canopy back. This canopy is necessary for not just the bird habitat but also to prevent the erosion of the island.

This project is 5 years in and approximately 40% completed thanks to the hard work of the DEEP and the Charles Island Reforestation volunteers. The Community Rotary Raffle of Milford hopes to sell all 6000 tickets with the help of concerned citizens. This will help The Charles Island Reforestation Team purchase the trees needed for the fall planting and more.

How is the Community getting involved:

  • A “Grassroots " group is working with the DEEP, CT  and has become one of the largest volunteer undertakings of a community group in Milford
  • We will be promoting this $10K RAFFLE at every event that takes place in Milford all summer long!
  • Not only are 2 Rotary Clubs working together with the Charles Island committee, but we are engaging all Milford civic and environmental groups to help.
  • Mayor Tony G will officially declare a proclamation of Charles Island day
  • Milford Photo Shop will have a before and after photo contest
  • T-shirts and mugs will be sold donating proceeds to the project

                                               SERVICE ABOVE SELF

The Devon Rotary Club of Connecticut is a volunteer organization of business and professional women and men who want to make a positive difference in the community.

On October 4, 1966, the Club was chartered.  Dr. Oliver Andrus, formed the club and was its first President. The new entity was sponsored by the Milford Rotary Club.

From its onset, Devon Rotary gained a reputation as a friendly and fun loving organization.  We are a hands-on club, helping those in need in the Milford community and around the world. Our passionate members are dedicated to the Rotary motto, 'Service Above Self.'

We annually provide more than $25,000 to local charities and organizations thanks to our various fundraisers.

As part of Rotary International, one of the world’s largest service organizations with 1.4 million members, Devon Rotary is also involved globally, working on projects to provide clean water, improve education and, most famously, help in the fight against polio. Since 1988, Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign ( has immunized more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries and reduced polio cases worldwide by 99.9 percent.

The club, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016, has a membership of 68 Rotarians who reside or work in Milford.

We also hope you'll consider joining Rotary. Please navigate our site to discover more about the important work of the Rotary Club of Devon.
